The Reason I Come to Slovakia Again and Again

As promised...here is our photo of our dinner with Ken Shirilla from Monday evening in Kosice.

Another day without luggage...but fear not..it's been found in Prague.  God only knows when it will get here.  I will have to go shopping tomorrow if it doesn't arrive in the middle of the night as I don't think I can wear my jeans, t-shirt and casual tennis to a wedding.  Joooj!

Michal, our translator/genealogist friend met us this morning and we headed off for Chmelova to visit my Rusinak relatives.  It was Todd's first exposure to the unique hospitality of these wonderful people.  Suffice it to say if you have not been here before, plan to eat and drink...a lot!
Kuraci
My second cousin, Anna Rusinakova Prihatna served us a delicious lunch of Kuraci Polievka, Bracovy Rezen and Zemiakovy Salat.  That's Chicken Soup, Pork Schnitzel and Potato Salad.  We added a few more pieces to the Rusinak genealogy puzzle for which I was grateful.  Anna's sister, Maria, also came by.  I was able to show Todd the land that my grandfather's house used to be on, toured their garden and said our tearful goodbyes.

We drove through Stebnik quickly and then took Michal back to the pension so he could be on his way to Presov.

We then attended Vespers at the tiny church in Becherov.  Afterwards my Cuper cousins had us over for yet another large meal and drinks.  It was a successful day as more of the Cuper family tree was figured out.

Tomorrow we will spend some more time in Chmelova, Becherov and Stebnik and then have a dinner with Jozef and Anna Jurista.

Until then...okay...so I lied about the photos...having technical difficulties...will try again in the morning.

  1. Enjoying your blog, as I do every time -- interested in what Todd might have to say -- if he wants to comment. Hopefully your luggage arrives so you don't need to shop for wedding attire; however, who wouldn't welcome a new outfit? Enjoy the wedding. Caye
