We awoke early this morning to catch the hotel shuttle to the Amsterdam airport for our flight to Prague and then onto Kosice where we would rent a car and make the short drive up to Bardejov.
No problem...great hotel...nice shuttle...easy check in at Schipol. As we were sitting at the gate waiting for our flight I mentioned to Nina that the blog would be pretty lame today as we would be spending most of the day traveling. Boy was I wrong.
The first leg of our flight to Prague was uneventful...mid-size jet. The flight to Kosice was on a twin engine jet that holds about 48 persons and departed about half an hour late. It was a fairly smooth and uneventful ride...that was until we arrived in Kosice...and my luggage did not. So we filed the claim...which took a while as there were about five of us who did not receive our luggage. Strike one. Because the flight was late and the time it took to file the claim by the time we got to the car rental counter there was no one there. We called the phone number and were told that they had left to deliver a car elsewhere and it would be an hour before they came back. Strike two. I was handling this fairly calmly...but then Nina decided I needed a shot or two of Hruskovice...my favorite drink here.
Finally we received our car...and we were off to dinner to meet a fellow Rusyn Facebook friend. We had a lovely dinner, fun conversation and then were off to Bardejov. We arrived safely and were warmly greeted by Vlado and Dorothy at the pension where we are staying. One quick beer in the town center and now we are ready for some rest before our days in the villages tomorrow and Wednesday.
It is now 11:00pm and still no luggage. Such fun to travel!!! Will post some photos tomorrow...
